BB30 is an oversize bottom bracket standard that boosts stiffness and decreases weight. BB30 bottom bracket bearings are pressed directly into compatible frames, meaning there are no heavy external cups to thread in. And, BB30 cranksets feature 30mm-diameter spindles (standard spindles are smaller) for greater pedaling efficiency and increased power transfer.
Cannondale’s patented OPI 3D forging process allows them to take parts that normally consist of multiple pieces of bolted, bonded, or welded aluminum, and instead, use a single block of aluminum to create one-piece forged parts. By forging the pieces from a single block of aluminum, Cannondale achieves exceptionally good metal-grain alignment. This makes the parts stronger and uses less material for overall lighter weight.
